New Wedding Rules: Effortless Elegance For Bridesmaids and Mothers In Any Length

Taken collectively or individually, new fashion trends for the women in the wedding have definitely shifted this year. Who knew you could have beauty and comfort, while looking chic and elegant on the bride’s special day. In keeping with Tadashi’s figure-flattering techniques and relaxed feel, this season’s bridesmaids dresses have included more above-the-knee styles. While long bridesmaid dresses are still in, shorter, designs have moved front and center. Even dresses for the mother of the bride (and groom) have gotten in on the act,  with each design length providing a significant slimming effect for any woman’s figure.

What’s In For Bridesmaid Dresses

Besides length, overall fashion trends this season have grown versatile, with comfort factored in like never before. Gone (or going) are the highly structured duchess style gowns, and in their place are new designs, some that offer a slightly higher waist that hits your narrowest point, hugging the contours of the body. In addition, lovely scalloped laces or chiffons overlay Tadashi Shoji’s comfortable stretch jerseys, providing luxurious sophistication with a relaxed feel.

Which is also to say that the cut and heft of the bridesmaid dress this season provides even more natural ease and elegance, whether in a long design or the shorter cocktail style that has become popular for outdoor weddings in particular. Some styles even include peplum or over the shoulder techniques, enhancing any figure.

Besides dress lines,  soft colors have become easier on the eye with pale yellow, green, fuchsia and taupe dominating this season’s collection. Platinum and pewter is also quite popular, as is the always reliable and elegant little black dress. Further, some brides are choosing different hues or tones of the same fabric, even the same design. Other brides have selected the same fabric and color while opting for different styles of each dress.

Dresses For The Mother Of The Bride (and Groom)

Lovely variety has become the catch-phrase this season, with innovative body-fitting techniques such as an appliquéd elastic band detail that accents the waist for the full-figured woman—techniques Tadashi Shoji has always excelled at! Another example includes a dramatic fitted bodice resting on a soft net skirt, sometimes voluminous. The single shoulder look is also very popular this season, with flattering fabrics that include jerseys or stretch taffetas that effectively contour natural attributes while camouflaging any problem areas.

Lace layering, whether the same or in contrasting color for accents, is definitely a big hit this year, as are many embellishments such as waist-flattering ribbon sashes, bows, flowers, rosettes, petals, beading, even belts. Most popular is the “ruching effect,” along with draping and shutter pleats, any of which can be extremely flattering for the mother of the bride or groom.
